The whole living room, dining room, kitchen view

Picture
Kitchen/Dining Room/Entry Before:  We'll be replacing that lovely fan and the light in the entranceway.  When the dishwasher kicks the bucket, we'll replace it with SS and black to match the new stove.  We'll paint out the trim around the florescent light to match the future color of the cabinets.  We might paint the front door red or keep it light.  That whole area surronding the kitchen and into the entranceway will be light beige.  Do you think we should paint that beam to match the ceiling?

During:  With carpet, baseboards, and tack strip all pulled up.

Picture
During:  Paint on walls.  Ralph Lauren Thunder Bay color matched into Kilz from WalMart.

Work in progress:  According to my husband, decorating is a girl's job, so I'm waiting for mi madre to get into town to help me decide what to put on the walls.  We have a closet full of decor just waiting to get hung.

Notice the new light fixture over the dining room talbe.  What an improvement!

Picture
After:  A little touch on the front door and a wreath from our wedding day spruce up the entrance way.

Kitchen

Picture
Kitchen Before:  We're be putting some brushed nickel knobs on these cupboards.  We're also planning to paint the little bit of wall space sage green and cupboards an off-white.  We're looking forward to replacing the countertop with HD laminate, putting in a ceramic tile backsplash with a band of glass tiles running directly under the window and around the kitchen.  This will be one of our longer-term projects.

Dining Room/Living Room Area

Picture
Dining Room Before:  This area will get the paint and laminate too.  We'll replace that lovely 80s fixture and change out the window coverings.

Picture
During:  Color on walls.  Green is Valspar Bullfrog color matched into Kilz from WalMart.  Beige is Ralph Lauren Thunder Bay color matched into Kilz from WalMart.

Picture
The lighting fixture over the dining room talbe is the Eden from CB2.  It came with a plug in, but Jud fixed it up to work right into the hardwired ceiling.  Doesn't it look great?

Living Room

Picture
Living Room before:  We're going to attack this room first.  We're likely replacing the carpet with medium or dark wood laminate.  We're having it painted ASAP.  We plan to put a medium toned neutral on the fireplace wall and the slider wall and opening to the kitchen.  The right wall (out of view) will be red.  The fireplace itself will get some paint too.  It will be whatever our trim color is, an off-white neutral.  The curtain rods will stay, but I'm still debating how I'll change out the window treatments.  I'm trying to keep the thermal drapes from our apartment, but I can't find more sets of them, so I don't know how I'll coordinate other drapes with them.  We'll eventually swap out the mini blinds for either plantation blinds or something like a bamboo shade.  I'd like to replace the fireplace insert and find a decorative screen for in front of it.

Picture
During:  Taping windows and ceiling.  We don't recommend tape.  This is the only room in which we taped, and we learned our lesson.  In all other rooms we used a small brush and a steady hand.  Do not trust the blue tape.  It is not your friend.

Picture
During:  Making progress.

Picture
During:  Looking good in beige and green!

We originally wanted to paint the opposite wall red instead of this wall green, but after an impulse change of plans  in the Lowes paint department, we're really happy with our decision.

Picture
During:  Welcome laminate floors!  Nice to meet you.  Floors are Mannington Butterscotch Hickory, installed by local Houston man.  If you're looking for a good flooring guy, I've got his number!

Picture
Work in progress:  That mirror on top of the mantel was a bit of a last minute decision.  It came off our old master bedroom dresser and was sitting in the living room, waiting to be taken to the garage, when I asked Jud to see if it fit.  It's not something I would have bought specifically for that space, but it will do for the moment.

Picture
After:  The mantle is still a work in progress, but I'm happy to be displaying the side by side pictures of our wedding party.  We've had those pictures framed for about 18 months but couldn't ever find a home for them.

Picture
Work in progress:  See that empty space above the wall just begging for a little something?  Mom and I have a lot of work to do, but Jud and I did a lot already.

Picture
After:  A grouping of Central Park photographs from our honeymoon in New York is arranged above the couch to bring the green to this side of the room, and scroll candle holders were added on either side of the fire place.
